Kawasaki Versys: Kawasaki says it's "Built to attack the roads you ride, from city streets to mountain passes and everything between." Ahem.
Just read about the Kawasaki Versys yesterday (admit I'm late...) and though I am a big fan of Kawasaki motorcycles, I must say I'm not too impressed with this bike. It's powered by a 650cc parallel-twin that makes 71 horsepower, so performance can only be mild at best. And though it might possibly be comfortable for longer rides, the styling doesn't do much for me. The swingarm looks nice and chunky, there're petal disc brakes and the stubby exhaust system is funky, but overall, the bike is devoid of any character whatsoever. Could be a good learner bike though...

Here's what Kawasaki say about the Versys: "The spirit of street surfing – that's the fluid spirit and response of the Kawasaki Versys..." Er, yeah, right. I'll take a ZZR1400 please

I do not agree with your assessment of the Kawasaki Versys, which I bought and brought home two weeks ago. I should note that I too am devoid of any character whatsover and my performance can lag from to time to.. see what I mean? In any case, for myself and others similarly unqualified to know better, it's an outstanding motorcycle and one I would not hesitate to take anywhere you and your ZZR1400 would dream of reaching. zoom!
I'm a new Versys owner too, and though I agree it's not a conventionally pretty bike, it's style does kind of grow on you. It's performance is decent too. It's the equal of a lot of air-cooled 750cc bikes that I can think of, like the Kawasaki ZR-7S, or the older Suzuki GS750's of the 1980's. It's also the best handling bike I've ever ridden, bar none. The rear suspension is a little stiff, and it's not a true dual-sport, but as a very sporty commuter and a decent light tourer, it can't be beat.
