KTM 950 Super Enduro R: Off the beaten track

The KTM 950 Super Enduro R should be hard enough for most

You’ve seen the KTM 950 Supermoto. Now here’s the hard-as-nails off-road version, the KTM 950 Super Enduro R. KTM say it’s ‘the ideal bike for those who want to tackle absolutely everything. During chassis tests it dismisses the roughest abuse.’ And why not – the bike’s high-grade WP suspension components have been optimised for hard-core competition use. Planning on tackling the Paris-Dakar next year? The Super Enduro R is your bike.

The 185-kilo bike is powered by a 942cc, liquid-cooled V-twin, which makes 98 horsepower. The chassis is tubular chrome-molybedinum space frame, brakes are from Brembo, and WP suspension, front and rear, is hugely adjustable. The Super Enduro R was launched at one of the world’s toughest off-road events – the Erzberg Rodeo, in Austria – and it won the twins class. Looks like the BMW HP2 has some worthy competition from KTM after all!

Mad bike!! KTM Engineers are obviously incurable petrol-heads. Not really sure how pratical this monster is though. I have the 950 super moto which is a rocket of a thing. I think for all except the most experienced riders this would be waay too much. Not to mention the fact it weights 185 kilos and is only for blokes over 7 feet tall. It looks almost like a joke bike meant for giants when you see one. Paris Dakaar maybe, hooning around the streets looking like a bad-assed nutter, definately - otherwise it's of little use for much else.

The KTM Super enduro 950 is an awsome bike and looks perfect on a guy 6'or taller. I am 6'1" and it is perfect. There is no much choice out there. The BMW HP2 Enduro is way too bulky. On a traffic jam you would get stuck in between two cars with that kind of engine(Yes, I am in Los Angeles and there is traffic all the time). I wish the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 s had more ground clearence and had knobies on. Then I'd have a better choice for on and off-road. The Hypermotard looks like a scooter under my legs. .

An this is not fat people's excuse I haven't reached 210lb yet.

Even the engineer that designed it did not realize it was too small for himself. Check out their website and look how funny most of the test riders look on that bike. But unfortunately the bike is designed for someone 5'5" or shorter.

As of 7/29/07 I haven't seen anything out there that even compared. If you know a better choice please let me know. Roney@Ultimate-Handyman.com

KTM 950 SUPER Enduro!

I've had one of these bikes after riding a few bikes in my life, but this aint a motorbike, this is a MONSTER!!

I fell with mine with only 600km on the clock and sold it. I discovered that the front tyre was fit in wrong direction and had minimal to none grip at the front and that carried to my great fall!

But now i am in the process of purchasing my new one, the ERZBERG edition and what a beautifull Monster indeed! That thing will be flying. Cant wait to get hold of mine. What a hell of a bike!!!

I owned one of these Monsters for one and a half years, there are no words to describe this bike. On the road, superbikers eyes pop out their helmets when you leave them standing up to 100mph, after that you have no chance against a superbike. In the dirt, if you havent raced motorcross or enduro and dont have a lot of offroad experience - dont bother taking it offroad because 100hp in the back wheel is too much for most. But if you can handle it then its awesome. Outside any cafe, any bike show, any car show - wherever you go people will flock round in awe to worship this machine. Lastly this rubbish about having to be over 6 foot, i am 5ft8 and had no issues with the height, let me re phrase that, if you playing around the garden or town fiding up and down stairs or road curbs then short legs are a problem because the bike is heavy, saying that, if you ride it hard and fast like you meant to on and offroad your feet dont have to touch the ground and you will be just fine. I sold mine as i moved countries but i will get another - Supermonster KTM rules and only real bikers need buy one - not for handbags.
