X-Bow: KTM to manufacture a radical sportscar!

Carbonfibre monocoque chassis by Dallara, 250bhp turbocharged engine by VW and high-speed excitement by KTM

Faster and Faster is only about motorcycles, so why are we talking about cars here? Er, perhaps because this one - the X-Bow - will be made by KTM. We genuinely like KTM motorcycles – there are very individualistic, focused and performance-oriented. Our kind of machines!

Coming back to the car you see here, KTM seem to have been working on this for quite some time now. The lightweight (about 700kg...) open-roof coupe, which will be called the X-Bow, will be powered by a mid-mounted 2.0-litre turbocharged FSI engine, which comes from the Volkswagen GTI. The car has been designed by Gerald Kiska, the same bloke who also designs KTM motorcycles.

Once fettled by KTM, this engine should easily make 250-300bhp and will drive the rear wheels through a clutchless-shift six-speed gearbox. The chassis is a light and stiff carbonfibre monocoque, which KTM have developed together with Italian racecar specialists Dallara. Acceleration should be in the league of litre-class superbikes and top speed is expected to be an electronically-restricted 250km/h.

This KTM roadster is expected to debut at the Geneva motor show in March 2007 and will be sold through existing KTM dealerships. Price is expected to be around the US$50-60,000 mark, and KTM will only build 100 of these cars in 2007. Depending on demand, the company may make another 500 units in 2008.

If the wife thinks you should definitely get a car, this KTM should fit the bill very well...
