Confederate Fighter: The US$110,000 Christmas present

The limited edition Confederate Fighter

If you’ve got US$110,000 to spare and if you’re looking for an early Christmas present, head over to Neiman Marcus, who have this Confederate Fighter on their catalogue. Built by the Confederate Motor Company, who’re making only 45 units of this bike, the limited edition Fighter is powered by a 1,966cc, 45-degree radial twin. Power output is not specified, but top speed for the bike – which weighs 194 kilos – is a claimed 300km/h! Surely, they must be kidding...

Go through the specs sheet and you’ll find a lot of CNC billet this, alloy that and titanium/carbonfibre something-or-the-other. But what’s interesting is the front suspension, which is a multi-link, girder-type design, with a single centrally-mounted shock absorber. Certainly looks very cool.

The gearbox is a close-ratio, five-speed unit, the 19-inch (front) and 18-inch (rear) wheels, made of carbonfibre, are shod with Pirelli ZR-rated rubber, and the headlamp and taillamp are LED units. Sounds good? You can order your bike here. In the meanwhile, just in case Santa Claus is reading this, we’re begging for a 2009 Yamaha R1 for Christmas. Please, please, please

uh...where's the seat?

well, there IS a seat there if you look closely enough. but i agree, an adult would have to have his/her bum surgically removed to be able to sit on that seat. if you want a bigger seat, i guess you'd have to pay another... 10,000 bucks?

$110,000 for this? Pah! Stock jap and italian bikes are already so good, who'd want to buy these kind of bikes?? I mean, even you have all the money in the world, wouldn't you rather buy a bike that actually accelerates hard, leans over in corners, and can take the girlfriend on the back seat? What's the point of machines like this, I don't understand.

None of you guys get it. Mates, these bikes are for people who already have an R1, GSX-R, Ninja or Fireblade etc. in their garage. These people have been there, done that. They don't want or need crotch rockets anymore. AND they have the money to spend on really nice, exclusive machines like the one you see here. There's a market for such bikes and THAT'S why they get built. Geddit?

Rick could be right...this is for those nutty folks who have to find ways to spend their money because they have so much of it.
