What a surprise :S
The Z1000 is newer, sharper looking, faster and more powerful than the marginally cheaper Speed Triple. So, of course, the Speed Triple is the better bike :-DMCN and their jingoism is getting very, very silly.
U shud stop posting MCN videos featuring British bikes since no matter what happens, the Brit bike always wins. What crap!
It's not the British bike thing - the Speed Triple really IS a better bike. I've ridden the new Z extensively and it simply doesn't have any power low down. With streetfighters what you really need is torque and the Sp Trp has that in truckloads, the Z doesn't. Try riding the two back to back and you'll agree with MCN's verdict.
While I understand that it may not have a super amount of low down talk, that is the engine configuration. You wouldn't suggest the Triple had no torque compared to the 1125CR would you? How low can the torque figure of a 1000cc "tuned for torque" engine be anyway?
Maybe you should also think that the 2010 triple is exactly the same with a 4-year-old triple instead of the new Z. That makes it even more amazing.
I own a 2008 Speed Triple. I like the looks of the new Kawasaki and I was going to trade my Speed Triple in for a new Z1000. After test riding the Z1000 I agree with MCN it makes tons of power on the upper end starting at around 6000 however, the throttle response in town and in slower riding wasn't as good as my Triple. The Z1000 was nice but it wasn't nice enough for me to trade my Speed Triple for. If I didn't own a bike it would have been a close choice of factoring in Dealer location for may Triple however, I still like my Speed Triple better. Maybe I'm biased on the side of the triple but the Z1000 didn't offer enough for me to leave my Triple behind.
I own an 08 S3 with Arrow slip-ons, geared down, etc. Tested the Z1000 two weeks ago: what a brilliant motor with suspension and handling to match. But it's bland, typical pseudo-racer styling turned me off. The S3 sounds and looks so much better (purely subjective of course). There's no denying the Kawi is mechanically superior. But most Triumph owners do not buy the Speed Triple for 1/4 mile times or 7000+ rpm screaming. It is time for Triumph to release an updated S3, though.
are you people talking about torque like pulling something or just snapping the throtle because i own a 2010 z1000 and i guarante you if you snap the throtle on mine stock you want have to think about torque because if you are man enough to keep the front tire on the ground the only other thing you will be doing is trying not to slide off of the back of the beast.
Hi from MontrealCurrently I have a 2008 Z1000 but I am looking for the New Speed Triple 2011 and Street Triple R 2011. Any comments? Bonjour de Montréal. visorDOWN
well many opinions. ride both a decide yourself. i have owned two speed triples and have ridden the z1000 extensively. The Z is a better bike.....the z has a superior riding position, better handlebar comfort and is more powerful in the upper rpms. the S3 may have a little more low end torque but not much in my opinion. Once the z hits 6000 rpms see ya later speed triple. a leftover z you can get for about 9500 out the door. S3's are more expensive. i like the Z's styling. very modern. I WOULD BUY THE Z1000!!!!!! HANDS DOWN.
