The Suzuki GSX-R1000 remains pretty much unchanged for 2012, but that's all right...

We’re a bit late with this (pressures of our day jobs...) but we’re still doing this post anyway – how can we not write about our dear, beloved GSX-R1000. Suzuki have announced details of the 2012 GSX-R1000, which they claim is endowed with ‘heightened engine and chassis performance as well as reduced weight.’

For those who were expecting an all-new Gixxer Thousand for 2012 will be disappointed with the fact that Suzuki have kept this year’s styling. However, kerb weight is down by two kilos and the bike gets new Brembo monoblock brake callipers at the front. Suzuki also claim that the 2012 GSX-R1000 benefits from MotoGP-derived engine developments, which allow the pistons to be 11% lighter, making for improved acceleration. And finally, the 2012-spec Gixxer returns to a single-side 4-2-1 exhaust system, with a lightweight titanium silencer.

We love the GSX-R1000 very, very much and while we’re a bit sad that Suzuki haven’t provided a radical update to the machine, we still quite like the 2012 bike the way it is. And at £10,999 / 13,500 euros for the 2012 GSX-R1000, the pricing is not too bad either.

They haven't changed it and, yeah, we still want one
