Ducati 848 Evo takes on Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe!
Sure, it isn’t the full monty 1198SP, but with its 140-horsepower Testastretta L-twin, the 2011 Ducati 848 Evo probably packs more performance than most riders can use on the street. Or on the track, for that matter. For about £10,695 (US$), the 848 Evo is one hell of a way to get around.
Now, what if you had to pick a four-wheeled equivalent to the Evo? We’d say the brand-new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe just might be that car. It’s 6.3-litre V8 engine produces 457bhp – enough to propel the car from zero to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. Mercedes haven’t announced pricing yet but then, if you have to ask, you probably won’t be able to buy one anyway.
The video here has been produced by AMG, who had announced a marketing tie-up up with Ducati in November last year. Hot chick on a Ducati 848 Evo racing some dude who drives the new C63 AMG? It’s all a bit gratuitous, but we’re not complaining… :-D
The Doctor will now also work closely with Bridgestone towards developing their hyper-sports tyres for high-performance streetbikes. Guess we'd all be buying Battlax rubber now!
The Bridgestone Corporation has announced that it has signed a new three year deal with Dorna Sports, which will see it continue as the official tyre supplier to the premier class of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) MotoGP World Championship. The new contract, which extends from 2012 – 2014, means that Bridgestone will continue to provide tyres and technical support to every team and rider on the premier class grid when the MotoGP championship goes from 800cc to 1000cc engines next year.
‘I am proud that we are able to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to MotoGP by extending our participation as official tyre supplier to the premier class with a new three-year deal. Bridgestone has a very rich heritage in the leading motorsport categories across the world, and MotoGP represents a significant part of this heritage,’ said Mikio Masunaga, Vice President and Senior Officer Member of the Board at Bridgestone. ‘I am encouraged that we can continue what has been a very successful relationship with the premier class of motorcycle road racing over the past nine years. I would like to thank the riders, the FIM, Dorna, the MSMA and IRTA for their support, in particular over the last two years as official tyre supplier. I believe our involvement in MotoGP will enable us to continually improve the safety and performance of our consumer tyres,’ he added.
Speaking of consumer tyres, Bridgestone has also roped in Valentino ‘The Doctor’ Rossi as their motorcycle tyre development advisor. Under an agreement that was signed between Bridgestone and Rossi in February this year, Rossi will work with Bridgestone alone as a professional rider – his MotoGP team and sponsors will not be involved in the deal.
Rossi’s role, as an advisor, will include his evaluation and opinions on the performance of Bridgestone motorcycle tyres, particularly in the hyper sport, racing and sport touring sectors. Bridgestone in turn will use his input in tyre development to deliver road tyres with better performance and improved safety margins.
‘Valentino Rossi is a great ambassador for our company. By having advice and recommendations of the greatest motorcycle competitor of all time, we will ensure that we bring the best new Battlax tyres to the market,’ said Takashi Tomioka, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bridgestone Europe.

The 2011 Suzuki GSV-R packs more than 225 horsepower and can hit a top speed of 330+km/h
Suzuki have released official pics of the 2011 Rizla Suzuki GSV-R, which Álvaro Bautista will ride in this year’s MotoGP World Championship. This is last and final generation of the 800cc GSV-R grand prix bike, with MotoGP moving to 1,000cc engines from 2012.
According to Suzuki, the 2011 GSV-R is the most technologically advanced racebike the company has ever made and features improvements to the bike’s power output, driveability, acceleration and durability. To go with its revised engine, the new GSV-R also gets an updated chassis, with significant developments to the stiffness balance of the frame and swingarm and optimised weight balance and steering geometry. Finally, the bike also gets a more advanced ECU for traction and wheelie control, which makes the GSV-R more rideable in wet weather conditions.
Apart from improvements to its engine and chassis, the 2011 Suzuki GSV-R also features a revised livery, created by Troy Lee Designs. The new livery incorporates a new and more dynamic Rizla logo, which will be launched by the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team during this weekend’s final pre-season test at Qatar.
Much as we like the 2011 racebike, it isn't the hottest looking GSV-R we've seen. That honour goes to this GSV-R, which was raced by Chris Vermeulen in the 2007 Australian MotoGP. More pics here
