2012 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade: Official pics, specs released

The 2012 Fireblade is "feeling more fun in sporty riding and more joy of riding than ever before, whether it be on winding roads or at a circuit," says Hirofumi Fukunaga, large project leader (LPL) for the new CBR1000RR. Right on, Fukunaga san!

Honda have released the first offical pics of the 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade, which also happens to be the 20th Anniversary Fireblade, what with Honda having launched the very first CBR900RR FireBlade back in 1991. The 2012 Fireblade was revealed simultaneously at the Le Mans 24 hours round of the Endurance World Championship in France, and the eleventh round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship in Imola, Italy.

‘I've got a real soft spot for the Fireblade. I've ridden it in many different racing events over the years and had a lot of success with it. In fact, some of the most memorable moments of my career have been on the Fireblade,’ said Honda rider and IoM TT legend, John McGuinness, while unveiling the new bike at Le Mans. ‘It’s pretty exciting and I'm honoured that I was chosen to do it,’ he added.

Honda have announced details of the 2012 CBR600RR, which is now available with what the company calls a ‘fresh Victory Red/Ross White’ paintjob. ‘Supremely compact and potent, the 2012 Honda CBR600RR delivers blistering power balanced by easy, natural handling and faultless road manners. This is made possible by ultra-light weight, mass centralisation and a compact chassis. The engine delivers immediate, exhilarating torque, while its fairing is aggressively aerodynamic, enhances stability and allows maximum enjoyment of the machine’s performance,’ says a press release from Honda.

2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale announced

Ducati have announced a name for their 2012 superbike, the machine that will replace the current 1198. The new bike will be called the Ducati 1199 Panigale, which will be officially unveiled during the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, in November this year.

The Ducati 1199 Panigale (pronounced ‘eleven-ninety-nine Pan-ee-gah-lee’) will first see racing action in the 2012 FIM Superstock Championship and will make its debut in World Superbikes in 2013. We fully expect the 1199 to be a fearsome machine – its 1199cc L-twin is likely to be a fire-breathing, 190-horsepower monster and the bike will feature the latest iteration of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and racing-oriented ABS etc.

Can’t wait for Valentino Rossi to unveil the 1199 Panigale at EICMA in November. Should be an awesome moment for Ducati.

Ford unveils E-Bike Concept

Ford has unveiled the E-Bike Concept, a bicycle fitted with the best bike components available anywhere, and technology from F1. Shown at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show, the Ford E-Bike Concept can travel up to 85km on a fully charged battery.

Developed by Ford Design, in partnership with German brand cyber-Wear (the company behind Ford's Lifestyle Collection products), the Ford E-Bike Concept has been created to appeal to both men and women. ‘The E-Bike market is growing very, very rapidly, with some 30 million units sold globally last year. We see E-Bikes as an important element of urban electric mobility. More and more people are using E‑Bikes for short distance commuting and they are becoming comfortable with the concept of electric mobility,’ says Axel Wilke, Director - Vehicle Personalisation, Ford Customer Service Division, Europe.

Moto Guzzi are celebrating their 90th anniversary this year and they have no dearth of fans who’re supporting the Italian company with all their heart and soul. Last weekend, Moto Guzzi had a three-day extended party in Mandello del Lario, in Italy, with about 20,000 people from 52 countries participating in the ‘Giornate Mondiali Guzzi’ (Guzzi World Days) celebrations.

The Italian company also recently announced the Moto Guzzi California 90, the last and final edition of the current California touring bike that’s fitted with an 1100cc transversely mounted V-twin. In 2012, Guzzi will launch the new California that was unveiled in Monte Carlo earlier this year.

2012 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade to get fly-by-wire technology

The 2012 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, spy shots of which appeared last month, may not look dramatically different from the current model, but it almost certainly will perform better. In addition to improvements made to the bike’s chassis and suspension, Honda seem to be moving things ahead in the engine department in a big way. The 2012 Fireblade will get an all-new fly-by-wire throttle management system, which is likely to work in tandem with Honda’s next-generation C-ABS and some kind of traction control system.

Castrol Honda riders – Jonathan Rea, Ruben Xaus and Makoto Tamada – are scheduled to start testing the new fly-by-wire system very soon, in Misano. The team has also confirmed that this new technology will be homologated for street use with the introduction of the 2012 CBR1000RR.
