2016 Ducati Scrambler Sixty2, Flat Track Pro unveiled

The 2016 Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 is powered by an air-cooled 400cc V-twin. Bike looks like it should be good fun to ride, could become very popular with younger riders and women who're looking for a light, easy-to-manage motorcycle

Extending their popular Scrambler range further, Ducati have unveiled the Scrambler Sixty2 for 2016, with the bike being aimed at younger, newer riders. While the standard Scrambler is powered by an 800cc V-twin, the Scrambler Sixty2 gets a 400cc air-cooled V-twin that produces a newbie-friendly 41bhp and 34Nm of torque. The bike weighs 167kg dry (183kg with fuel and all fluids, ready to be ridden...) and has a relatively low-ish ride height, so should be really easy to handle. Plus, it has all the 'cool' of its bigger-engined sibling and doesn't compromise on style and the fun-to-ride factor.

According to Ducati, the "Sixty2 is a Scrambler inspired by youth street culture, skateboards, street food, pop music and, above all, the pop art that, back in1962 [the year the very first Ducati Scrambler was launched], was taking the United States by storm. That's why the Sixty2 is already a pop icon and while the Ducati Scrambler 800 is aimed at motorcyclists that see riding as a form of escapism, the Sixty2 has been built to appeal to younger riders and their yearning for fun."

Notwithstanding the smaller engine, the Sixty2 doesn't really scrimp on the basics - steel tube trellis frame, 6-speed gearbox, 41mm Showa fork at the front and preload-adjustable Kayaba monoshock at the rear, 17-inch alloy wheels, 320mm front disc brake and dual-channel ABS are all standard. As with the bigger Scrambler, the Ducati Sixty2 offers many possibilities for customisation and personalisation, and we suspect the bike will be very popular indeed with younger riders and perhaps with women who want a non-intimidating, fun-to-ride motorcycle.

Coming back to the bigger, 800cc Scrambler, there's a new one in the line-up for 2016 - the Ducati Scrambler Flat Track Pro. This, according to Ducati, is 'inspired' by the bike ridden in the American AMA Pro Flat Track 2015 Championship by Troy Bayliss and Johnny Lewis, and features low, tapered handlebars, a low-mounted Termignoni exhaust system, a side-mounted plate holder, nose fairing, short front mudguard and wheel rim piping in the same 'racing yellow' colour as the fuel tank. We think it looks pretty cool.
